Alaska Railroad RDC-3 #701

History

Four diesel rail cars (RDC) served on the Alaska Railroad serving primarily between Talkeetna and Hurricane Gulch transporting passengers and their supplies to and from their homes. These passengers don't have access to their place of residence by home so they rely on the Alaska Railroad. The RDCs would also be economical for charters or even taking passengers from Anchorage to Palmer to enjoy the Alaska State Fair. Excellent for operation in the summertime. But when the RDCs were up in Fairbanks going through an inspection, it was determined that the electrical hazards were unaffordable and the RDCs needed to be sold. Some went to Oregon as this one is on display at Whistle Hill.
