Alaska Railroad Parlor Observation 5

History

Served on the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1916-1936. Then the Alaska Railroad bought it and it was served for VIP passengers until 1954. After its years of operations, it was donated to the City of Seward and sat on the corner of Third Avenue and Jefferson Street. It was the only railcar that survived the 1964 earthquake. It was opened up as an information center the next year and run by volunteers. In the 1990s merchants did their best to restore this antique to its beauty but unfortunately due to being unable to fund the maintenance, the information center was shut down and only open on Independence Day. It was given to Millers Landing in 2008. The railcar is currently a safety hazard and is likely going to get scrapped
