Description
Ice Worm
Unkown
History
Purchased by the Sportsmans Lodge in Whittier to provide rail transportation between Portage and Whittier every hour on 12 miles of branch line passing through tunnels one being the longest in North America between 1965 and 1967. It didn't work well so the Alaska Railroad decided to put the Ice Worm in Storage. In 1970, after a long evening at work, members of the Alaska-Yukon Historical Society had a work party one evening to get the Ice Worm moved out. They were only given one week.
