History

#1000 and #1001 were brought up to Alaska in 1944 to transport trains from Portage-Whittier. In 1948 these locomotives got the yellow and blue paint scheme to match the other locomotives in the fleet and were used for yard switching operations in Anchorage and had its nose cut down in 1967 along with its current yellow and black paint scheme. It was retired in 1972 and was on display at Palmer until the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry.
